CM2 Cheats and tricks

National management cheat

Go to the Add Manager screen, and choose one of the International teams.
When asked for the name of the manager, type in the name of the current one for the nation you selected
You have now become the manager for the International side you initially chose!

Get any player for free

Find an interested, available player that you would like to buy.
Make a bid for the player so high that the club accepts it at once.
Choose 'adjust offer', and take your offering price down to free.
Press 'cancel'.
If the wage negotiations go like they should you have now got the player in your squad, at absolutely no cost at all!

Young talents the easy way

Method 1:

Make a bid for a player you know is going to retire the day before the game updates its stats. Then the game will let you buy the successor instead of the old player, because he retired.

Method 2:

Write down all the skills for the player that you know is going to retire and find him after the game has changed season using the skill search filter. You must only write down the skills that don't change by the player's age (stamina, influence etc.)

Method 3:

(Courtesy of Gary Kam:)When a team has got old players, they often free transfer them BEFORE CM2 updates the data for the new season. Or, if they have a free transfer clause in their contract, the player free transfer himselves. What you'll have to do is just to take a look at the transfers outs list of the team that you knew the player who was going to retire played for after the game has updated the stats and made new players(puh!). Now the name of the retired player's successor will be there instead of the name of the player who retired.

Method 4:

Take a look at the 'Recommended by Euro, world or league scout' list at player search after the game has updated its stats for a new season. Choose 'Sorting by Average Rating'. The players who don't have any average ratings and still are recommended highly by the scouts are players who have replaced old stars.

Quitting CM2 without saving

This one's easy; press the * (asterisk) key on your keyboard.

Preventing big-club release clause players from leaving

Put the player with the clause in his contract on the list for loan instead of the transfer list when he asks for a transfer...
...and simply reject any offers that clubs make for the player.

Controlling the contracts

(Courtesy of Yoav Naveh:) At August 1 of a season, go to your team's squad screen.
If you now choose offer new contract to a player, and you're not satisfied with the length of it, press cancel and then offer a new contract.
Now the player will (in most cases) demand a different contract length.

Changing the wages

(Courtesy of Simon Bonné Meyer:) If you think a player wants too high wages, try releasing him on free transfer, and then re-sign him. In most cases will the player now demand a contract with about 20-33 % less amount money in wages than before.
You sometimes can experience stiff competition from other clubs on signing the player if you choose this method, but that's a risk you have to take...

Capturing screen grabs from CM2

..can be accomplished by pressing the "&" key (normally shift+6 or shift+7) on your keyboard while playing.

Finding decent players

If you want to find decent young players you could try this method: Load up a game, with as many leagues as possible and become manager of any club.
As soon as it starts simply choose Retire Manager.
Let the computer run through the seasons on its own.
After about seven or eight seasons (equivalent to about a day) you can check the International Squads.
If you keep doing this you can begin to see which players consistently turn-up time and again. These players can often be picked up cheaply when you come to play the game properly. Obviously people like Michael Owen are the exception to the rule.
If you want to take it a stage further you can become manager of Northern Ireland at the start (you'll have to cheat) and then choose Manager Holiday. You can then keep coming back and monitor the progress of individual players by doing a Player Search. As manager of Northern Ireland you also won't get sacked for losing most of your games.

Obtaining superb reputation already from season one in CM97/98

Type 'Joe "superb"' as your first name and 'Bloggs' as your surname, and this, according to Matthew Packer, should be possible.
