1997 Season Wrap-up

The 1997 season of Fantasy Football ended as the NFL regular season finished off in December. We covered two leagues here (if you want more detail, check the Fantasy Football '97 Introduction), both having brazilian teams competing against teams from the US or from other countries.

1997 Global Football League

In ESPN's Global Football League, congratulations to the Screaming Meanies (owner Chris Harmon), as they beat the Sao Paulo Travelers (owner Carlos Curro) in the "Global Bowl", thus capturing the 1997 GFL Title. The second seeded Meanies (8-5 in the regular season, GFL East champions) drove past the third seeded Sao Paulo Big Passaros (owner Luis Curro, 7-5-1, second in the GFL East) in the first round of the playoffs, while the first seeded Travelers (9-4, GFL West champs) defeated the fourth seeded Crown City Thorns (owner Kevin McBreen, 7-6, third in the East). But the Meanies attack was too much for the Travelers in the Global Bowl, as they won 117-77. The Third-Place Game finished with a Thorns win over the Big Passaros, 118-88.

1997 Pele's League

In CNN's Pele's League, the rules said the league chapion would be the team with the most wins over the seventeen weeks of regular season (no playoffs). The Sao Paulo 55ers (owner Carlos Curro) had a superb season with 14 wins and only 3 losses, giving them the Pele's League Championship for 1997. The Sao Paulo Hard Plays (owner Luis Curro) finished second with a 12-5 record. Third Place was taken by the Ithaca Isolators (owner Pat Washburn), with a 11-6 record.

"Apology is Policy", as I was very, very late with the reviews and previews, so I'm again very sorry about this. I know how tough it is to come to a page and see it's not updated yet, so apologies to all who came here day after day, even with my never-in-time reviews. I hope in 1998 I'll do a better job to keep the pages up to date!
