The Master is back

Everyone knew John Stockton was hungry. Not everyone was sure he was ready. But eight weeks to the day after having surgery on his left knee, the All-Star guard made a triumphant return to the Utah Jazz lineup Monday night. Stockton scored 10 points, including eight in the first 5:37, and came off the bench late to spark the Jazz to a 106-97 win over the Indiana Pacers.
Stockton: I am ready to play!
"It was an emotional night, but I'm just going to play basketball now," Stockton said. "I think I've shown I'm OK."
Stockton received a deafening standing ovation from the Delta Center crowd before the game. Sporting a light brace on his left knee, he converted a three-point play on Utah's first possession.
He proceeded to get eight points and two assists in the game's first 5:37, when he left to another standing ovation. Coach Jerry Sloan sat Stockton down for the rest of the first half.
"That's how much I felt comfortable playing him," Sloan said. "Any time you come back from an injury, you've got to be careful."
Stockton also showed a feisty side in an altercation with the Pacers' Dale Davis midway through the third quarter. The two scuffled after Stockton was knocked to the ground while trying to set a pick on Davis.
Kings over Jazz the second time this year

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Corliss Williamson scored 19 of his career-high 27 points in the second half and Mitch Richmond added 24 points Tuesday night as the Sacramento Kings defeated the Utah Jazz 113-101. It was the Kings' second straight victory over Utah this year. The Jazz entered this season with 14 straight victories over Sacramento.
John Stockton, playing in his second game since recovering from knee surgery, finished with four points and five assists in 20 minutes -- the same amount of time he played Monday in his season debut. Karl Malone had 34 points and 10 rebounds.
