Igor Larionov is a  former hero of the Russian National Team and a charter member of the russian 5. His nickname is the professor. And off the ice, he looks like a professor, you wouldn't expect him to be a hockey player. Highly skilled. Highly intelligent. Great vision. Unequaled commitment. Igor is a master of getting an opponent out of position. He excels in passing the puck to an open man. He always plays with the Russian philosophy that anything but winning, is a failure. In the first Stanley cup Championship season, Igor scored 54 points, with 12 goals and 42 assists. He added another 4 goals and 8 assist in the playoffs, including a game winning goal. Larionov was a true Russian hero. he was a veteran of many International competitions with the Soviet National Team, which included capturing the gold medals in both the 1984 and 1988 Winter Olympics. He was the Center of the famous KLM line with Vladimir Krutov and Sergei Makarov during the 1980's. Igor was named to five All-Star Teams and earned the Soviet Player of the year honors in 1988. He was drafted by Vancouver in 1985 and then acquired by San Jose in the Waiver Draft in 1992. He played three seasons for the Sharks and tied their all-time career plus/minus record at Plus-17. He joined the Red Wings in 1995. In his first year, he set career record points (71), and was tied for fourth in club scoring, assists, and power play goals. In the first Championship Season Igor finished fifth on the club in scoring (54), tied for second with assists (42), scored two goals in the Conference Finals, and two other two-point games in the playoffs. He along with Russian teammate. Fetisov were such an inspiration to the team that Stevie Yzerman handed the Stanley Cup to them during the 1996 victory celebration. In the 1998 playoffs, Igor scored 13 points which included 5 game winning assists to prove his willingness to do whatever it takes for the team. Off season, Igor loves to travel to Europe, Loves red wines and loves to spend time with his wife, Elena and two daughters, Alyonka and Dianna, and New son Igor.
