RUGBY
TERMS
This is just a
miscellaneous look at some of the things that may be useful to know
in rugby. We'll just tie up some loose ends, from scoring to the
evolution of a rugby player to the difference between rugby and
football.(Many people don't know there is a
difference!)

THE EVOLUTION OF A RUGBY PLAYER!
RUGBY
VS.FOOTBALL
1.In rugby, the ball cannot
be passed forward, - rather, the ball moves backwards from player to
player. There is no quarterback in rugby that passes the ball
downfield to a receiver - every player on the field is eligible to
run with the ball and can pass backwards to any teammate, who then
continues downfield.
2.There is no blocking in
rugby. No player can shield or protect the ball carrier, and
only the player with the ball can be tackled.
3.Play in rugby is
continuous. The game does not stop when the ball hits the ground or
the player with the ball is tackled. Instead, the player who is
tackled must immediately let go of the ball, making it available to
any player on either team.
4.No gear is permitted to be worn
in rugby besides a mouthguard, which is a must to play. We all
know how football players pad up!
SCORING
TRY-
This is
like a touchdown, except that the ball carrier must get the ball into
the endzone and touch the ball down over the goal line for five
points.
CONVERSION-
After a
try, the scoring team can kick the ball through the uprights for an
additional two points.
DROP GOAL-
At any time
in the game, the team with the ball can try to kick the ball through
the uprights from any point on the field for three points.
PENALTY KICK-
After
certain penalties, the team without the penalty can choose to go for
a try or a penalty goal by a dropkick or a kick from the point where
the penalty occurred. The ball must go through the uprights for three
points.
