How good was Steve Bellisari in Saturday's
game at the Horshoe? Really good. Bellisari gave the Buckeyes
a much needed shot in the arm. After the Bucks dismal performance
in the Kickoff Classic, it was evident that Ohio State was in need of not
only a performer, but a leader, a guy who plays with the same enthusiasm
and tenacity of former Buckeye greats. Bellisari adds an extra dimension
to the offense, an intangible that cannot be measured by statistics alone.
Remember, we're talking about the same guy who had five tackles against
Michigan last year without playing a single down of defense. Against
the Bruins, Bellisari was able to run, pass, and yes, block. Bellisari
absolutely leveled a lineman from UCLA and then preceded to celebrate over
him. Politically correct? Maybe not. Exciting?
Absolutely. Sure he will make his mistakes, but not by lack of effort
or heart. Also, it was good to see Ken-Yon Rambo appear as a threat
at receiver, after years of hearing about his blazing speed.
