John
Redman's "Essentials of the GolfSwing"
This excellent book will probably be looked back at in time as a major work. Mr. Redman's swing theories and instructional methods set him apart from the majority of modern-day swing gurus. Especially insightful is his multiple page discussion on the release (which in Golf-Guide was referred to as the club being swung "all on it's own").
Also worth taking a good look at is the emphasis on the hip turn, and the "level" turning of the shoulders.

Leadbetter's "The Golf Swing"
This book is grounded in a understanding of body and club positions in order to achieve the proper motions of club shaft, club head, and body parts. It is of particular usefulness to help check that your own positions are reasonably close to what Mr. Leadbetter considers as the perfect swing positions.

Search of the Perfect Swing"
You just know that with a name like this, someone was relentlessly looking for the Holy Grail of golf! It is truly jam-packed with all sorts of scientifically derived golf mechanic measurements, data, an amazing photo of ball compression when struck at high speed, ad naseum.
One highlight is the calculation of distance lost when the ball is struck varying amounts away from the "sweet spot" of the clubhead face.
No, it does finally conclude, there is no one perfect swing. But still, truly a fascinating read.
