Book Selections Of The Month
The Runaway Series
Butterfly, Crystal, Raven, and Brooke by V.C. Andrews
As an avid reader of V.C. Andrews, I must say that these four books were somewhat a breath of fresh air. Even I must admit that Andrews' books have a definate pattern, and every once in a while, it is good to read a book or set of books, such as these, with a new storyline. These books still have the ability to bring out a variety of emotions as all V.C. Andrews books are known to do, but with a more original idea (not the normal happy-poor-girl/parents-die/ goes-to-live-with-rich-relatives-that-don't-care-about-her/ finds-all-family-secrets kind of book). Though the originality stops with the first book; after reading the first book, you will pretty much know what happens in the other three. Even so, I do look forward to the next book Runaways to bind the four girls lives together.
This one is perfect for the reader who loves books with a historic flavor. Egyptian fanatics will love it also. Memoirs of Cleopatra is a well researched account of Cleopatra's life and time. The story, presented in the first person, is a mixture of facts and realistic fiction that sets realistic scenes and characters. This portrayal of Cleopatra is one of the few that give the Queen the credit which she is due. One woman caught between what is right for her and her family, and what is right for her country. This book is also entertaining for those that love a good story. I would recommend this book to all those who enchanted by history and the Egyptian people. I would also like to commend Margaret George for really bringing the characters to life, and for writing such a wonderfully entertaining, yet educational book.
