Upon entering, I was immediately forced by my father to join the Scout group, a move for which I am now very grateful. Being in the QRC Scout Troop, lead by Mr Laurence McDowall, afforded me the opportunity for many experiences such as learning survival skills, life saving, swimming and all sorts of leadership. At first I did not think it was fun, and I even took a two year leave of absence after third form, but resumed my activities with the troop in form six. This was my greatest learning experience. This helped form life-long friendships (I hope) and was the source of most of my extra-curricular activities. My friends and I are still members of the troop and continue to enjoy helping in any way we can to keep QRC Scouts Trinidad's finest.
Learning experiences in school also included being a part of the Royal Bank Young Leaders project in 1993 in which we won $5000 for QRC, participating in the Unit Trust Investment Game in which we won $5000 for QRC and also being a member of parliament in the 1995 Youth Parliamentary Debate. I don't regret a moment of this. We were given ample opportunity to grow and to become well-rounded gentlemen. This, of course, is QRC's goal.
I hold my alma mater very dear. In the end I received total support from my teachers and they helped me to achieve what I didn't believe I could (see photo below). I am extremely proud to be an old boy of QRC and I look forward to my son's entry into QRC in September, 2019.
There was never one single moment when I regretted coming to QRC. This magnificent institution nurtured my friends and I to become the fine gentlemen who we are today. I am so grateful for what I received here when I see the problems of some of my friends who went to other so-called prestige schools. We were blessed at QRC with fine, caring teachers and a brotherhood to be envied by other schools.
