I was the 18th member baptized into the kc church of christ in 1986. I remained with this group for 5 1/2 years. I left in 1991 . In 1986 my husband and I were new to Kansas City and was looking for affordable marriage counceling. Just so happens I met some REALY NICE people at a "neighborhood bible talk" and was invited to a "marriage seminar" FREE of charge.

We were a "good looking couple with great potential for leadership!" They became my best friends. After years of "stuggling" and "reconstuction" I was baptized in this church three times! Why? Because I wasn't committed enough, "committed to what or whom?" I alway's felt that the first time I learned about Jesus Christ in 1983 and was baptized I then committed myself to Jesus. The ICoC disagreed and after weeks of study and slapping sin in my face convinced me otherwise.

Hence many years of living with guilt that I was not committed to church enough, my husband enough, my family, and a poor servant to my disciplers. I developed severe migrains, and depression, thoughts of suicide, stomach aches, constant vomitting, severe weight loss and nightmares.

I was told by a discipler that I drank too much pepsi and should give my urge over to God by putting the money I would spend on a soda in a jar and give to the church! Come on now! When I decided to leave the church, I was harassed for weeks. I was called a snake, a weasel, and told that i was taking my children to hell and causing my husband to sin with lust for other members and so on and so on.

I thought the verbal abuse would never end. When talking and trying to make me feel guilty and feel responsible for everyone elses sin didn't bring me back my husband resulted with physical abuse. "Of course I made him do it." I have lost so much from being involved with this group. I've been spiritually raped, at one time my sanity, and most painfully my 13 year marriage and my children whom are still suffering for loving me. 10 years have past since I left, I'm haunted at times only because our children are still going through great emotional abuse that seems out of my control. But I believe that sites like this will help them someday too.

Thank you for having such a website, I believe it will help many with the same story.

I read some of your 'news' items. I am really saddened by the fact that you still refer to the 'Hare Krishna' movement as a cult. It is a well known fact that Vaisnavism (which is the religion now nick-named Hare Krishna in the west) is the oldest religio known to man. In the U.K. the 'Hare Krishna' temple is used by thousands of Hindus as their most popular and reverred site of worship. What to speak of the FACT that in oxford university, known worldwide as THE seat of learning, and a 'Hare Krishna' monk of good standing, is teaching Vaishnavism there, approved by great shcolars as a bona fide and ancient culture? You are out dated and small minded. By all means try to protect us from cults.. but be more informed before you throw the dirt on bona fde religious groups. and why are you guys so against the ICC? Even at my college, there were always flyers up "beware of the ICC, they are a cult!" The fact is , if they were really a dangerous cult I would be interested and excited by them. It's just a funny version of chris ianity. No aliens in the sky, no multiple wives, no kool aid, no naked orgies in the desert. The ICC doesnt sound dangerous and destructive, it sounds BORING.

Hey, you all are so worried about cults..how about MAINSTREAM RELIGION targeting disenfranchised college students, or even worse- CONVINCING POOR PEOPLE to HAND OVER THEIR MONEY to the CHURCH. Christianity,Judaism, and al the rest are JUST AS F (edit) BAD exploitative, and manipulative as any "cult". We just don't think about it because those cults have gotten so much power that they are part of our Moral Code, part of our history, woven into every aspect of our culture. Why worry about some ridiculous sec in Northern Nebraska when Christianity is ruining people's lives right down the street? Just a thought.

I am very glad to see this sight. I am saddened for these people who are members. I wish they were not so afraid of "spiritual pornography" and would take a long deep, look at what they are involved in. I pray that each of these people would ask God to pen their hearts, eyes and mind to the spiritual deception happening at the ICC. If you are a current member, please search out all the info you can, once you have studied both sides, pray and ask God to show you the truth ,then you can make a wise and Godly decision. Watch what you are told to do by your dicipler, listen to what you as a dicipler are telling others to do or not to do. Pay attention to if you are a true friend and if your frineds are true or are they just assigned to you? Read the bible as it was meant to be read, as a whole, not taking a verse here and there out of context. If you have doubts in your mind heed those thought and investigate.

Your site was quite educational for me. I had a run-in with the ICC about two years ago. They call themselves Triangle Church in this area. I left because I disagreed with them doctrinally, I come from a Baptist background. However, looking back, I sa the cult-like tactics they use.

Truly gods message is working and the disiples of jesus christ in the ICOC are doing there best to bring as many disiples to god. If we were not being persecuted by sites like this and many people then are message would not be being heard. As it says in t e bible that you will be persercuted for what you have done just like jesus was. I am 17 years old and i choose to follow the bible and the word of god. People turn away from god because of there sin, not because of the church. Nobody is perfect, and we a e far from being perfect but being a disiple of god helps me fight day to day to bring the glory to him. There is nothing controling about the lifestlye that the disiples are preaching to live, the only thing that is controling is the bible and the bible tates that we are to be 100% pure hearted rightous people and to live are life doing things that please him, and if you can not handle how powerful the word of god is then it is not right to blame it on the disiples who are trying to live for god. OPen th bible see what it says and relize that if you are living by the word of god day by day then you will no longer point the finger at a church that is fighting to do the will of god. Again, i am 17 years old and i have the choice to leave god and the church but i choose life, i choose eternaty, i choose god as my god, and i will fight for my relationship with god till the day i die, and no one can shake my ground. Check it out and evaluate your life, i did and i relized that i am nothing without god and his kingdom, the church.

I just wanted to share that I was first met over five years ago in college. I was seeking God wholeheartedly. I was such an angry person, full of hate and bitterness. I had everything I could ever want on the outside, but was torn in the inside. A fri nd of mine had left the church several years ago and was making an attempt to come back. I insisted on attending; it was a mid-week devotional. The next day I began the study series and saw radical changes in my life. I had been to so many other church s, but this church was a family of love. They cared about my salvation. They were not a group of people whom you could just 'clock in' church with. They wanted to know you so that they could help you to make it to heaven. Since then, I have been so he villy persecuted by my husband, my friends, and my family. And eventually because of my faithfulness to God and his church, my husband (who was not a disciple) left me. My friends in the world left me. And at first my family persecuted me hard. I now lead a single-mother's Bible Talk, I have learned to love even those friends who left me, I gained a multitude of new friends from all around the world, and my family holds me up as an example of a God-fearing woman, brave and courageous. It may seem that on the outside I had lost much, but I have truly gained a life through Jesus Christ. I can now date purely in the Kingdom, and lead my daughter to her own relationship with God. I am truly grateful for my salvation. If you are a person who is confused or seeking God, please e-mail me. I would love to share with you even more about victories through Christ. God does not want us to be angry and full of vengeance and hate. His desire is to save us from all of our lon liness. You may ask, does it bother me that our church is labeled a cult? Jesus already told us in the gospel that the world would hate his true disciples. We see in the book of Acts that the church was heavily persecuted. If you are not being persecuted and s ffering for the Name, you are not part of his church. The definition of a cult is 'followers of a live person.' Jesus is ALIVE. Do you believe that? I was told by a member to look into the Web sight http://www.icoc.org. I have been to several meetings,in DC and In Canton ,Ma. and several study groups. I am 66 years old and i have been around the world and lived in Europe,Africa and the USA in which I was born. I have a strong feeling that you are opposed to the Internati nal church of Christ. My short time in visiting with them I have not found that they are brainwashing people or that they are any less the any other Christian church in the world. I think sites like this are great for warning unsuspecting students about the dangers of cults. The only thing is it seems to be very ICOC based and, while this is all very well, we must not forget other, potentially even more dangerous beliefs than this. I was browsing the web for some information on my third year Psychology Thesis - which I planned to do on why people believe in myths and legends, and ended up at a site on 'The Church of Virus'.
