The Great Seal of the Nation Of Liberty

"Liberty Is Justice"

This is a pretty low-res scan of our Seal, but serves as a good preview of this powerful revolutionary symbol. Better paper graphic versions and higher-resolution scans are in the works, and will be used throughout the NOL website, NOL literature, and NOL regalia in the near future.

The Organizing Manual of the Nation Of Liberty describes our Seal thus:

"The Libertarian Eagle Seal is the Great Seal of the Nation Of Liberty.

"The eagle represents not only the independent, high-flying freedom, glory, and ultimate triumph of the libertarian cause and of the free America and free world which libertarianism will create, but the rebirth of liberty as a phoenix, rising from the ashes of the first American Revolution, which was incinerated by statism.

"The Libertarian Eagle Seal depicts an American bald eagle in heraldic form, proudly bearing the libertarian circle-L sign on its breast. The eagle's head faces to the left as it fixes the viewer with its steady, vigilant gaze. Its mighty beak bears a scroll with the NOL motto 'LIBERTY IS JUSTICE'.

"To the left, its claws clutch an olive branch representing peace and the end of statist imperialism. Also to the left, the eagle holds a marijuana leaf, symbol of the abolition of drug laws and other vice laws, and by extension, the creation of complete and universal civil liberty in the coming libertarian society.

"To the right, the eagle carries a sword with a handle in the form of a fasces, ancient symbol of the power of the State, with the sword's tip spearing a coin, symbolic of the forcible State extortion of money, that is, of taxation. This dull sword of the State is broken at an angle in the eagle's mighty grip, with the fasces inverted, symbolizing the coming destruction and downthrow of taxation and statism. In the same foot to the right, the eagle carries a cornucopia overflowing with gold coins, symbol of the prosperous free market to come, draped with a length of broken chain symbolizing the destruction of State economic regulation.

"Thus the Libertarian Eagle, unlike previous libertarian symbols, combines bold and provocative symbols of the libertarian Four Goals: No Imperialism, No Vice Laws, No Taxes, and No Regulations, respectively. The Eagle symbolizes the Four Goals Doctrine and presents this doctrine in vivid, graphic, visualized form.

"Guiding and overseeing the Eagle from above is an eye in a triangle, surrounded by a cloud-ringed halo of light rays. This represents the individual, the guiding idea of Liberty, illumination, and the Force of Universal Causation and Providence, the Creator, which will ensure the creation of Liberty.

"...

"Note that the olive branch has 13 leaves and 13 olives, and that the cornucopia has 13 ridges and 13 coins. This represents the spirit of the American Revolution by representing the 13 colonies which joined to fight the people's oppressors. The 7 blades of the marijuana leaf, and the 7 ridges on the speared coin, mirror the 7 letters each in the words "Liberty" and "Justice" on the motto scroll.

"The eye in the triangle within the cloud-ring also represents vigilance, the Eye that Sees, the eye of the illuminated individual, enlightened by the knowledge of Liberty which breaks through the clouds of doubt, confusion, and inaction. The point-up triangle is an ancient symbol of fire, and here represents the fire of enlightenment which burns in the eyes of those who know about and fight for Liberty. It is the fire that Prometheus stole from the gods, and gave to mortals; the truth about statism and Liberty known and hidden by those who seek and hold Power -- the statist rulers who falsely make themselves gods over us -- and which the forces of Liberty take from the rulers and give to the people.

"These are the true and only meanings of the NOL symbols. There are no hidden or "deeper" meanings. False interpretations of these symbols will be promoted among enemies of Liberty and enemies of the libertarian movement; these will have the effect of deactivating our enemies with their own paranoia and fear."
