Navy Cross
VF-17's awards are based on real life awards issued to Navy units during WWII for valour and achievement. We've chosen to use depictions of the actual awards for immersion's sake and in no way do we wish to diminish or cheapen the real veteran's who bravely earned the actual ones. Our awards are presented based on a player's bravery, skill or achievement (or rather, the virtual equivalent of each as it applies to the Ace's High online enviroment). Awards of valour are: The Medal of Honor: For extreme acts of valour that are clearly recognized outside the squadron. The Navy Cross: For acts of bravery and skill that greatly surpass the norm. The Silver Star: For acts of bravery and skill that, although deserve recognition, do not rate a Navy Cross. The Distinguished Flying Cross: For acts of aerial skill and bravery that do not rate the silver star. The Bronze Star: Non-flight related acts of heroism and skill. The Air Medal: Surpassing the standards set by the unit in one or more catagory of flight related skill. Awards of achievement are: Distinguished Service Medal: Performance or development of a tactic or strategy that is most beneficial to all allied players within the arena. Navy and Marine Corps Medal: Recognition both within and outside the squadron for skill in perfecting and promoting tactics and strategy that benefits the Navy and Marine units within the allied sphere of an arena. Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal: Recognition within the squadron alone for the skills mentioned in the Navy and Marine Corps Medal requirement. Presidential Unit Citation: Recognition for surpassing all of the squadron's goals for a tour. Navy Unit Commendation: Recognition for surpassing most but not all of the squadron's goals for a tour. Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation: Recognition for surpassing at least one goal set for the squadron for the tour. Foreign Service/Opfor award: Recognition for achievement while serving either an Allied force as an exchange pilot or as an OpFor pilot in advanced training. Awards of participation are: Navy Expeditionary Medal: Participation in an event involving U.S. Navy aircraft. American Defense Medal: Freebie - issued to all within the unit for joining. American Campaign Medal: Issued for participation in an event as a member of a U.S. unit. European/Other Campaign Medal: Issued for participation in a non-Asiatic Campaign event. Asiatic Campaign Medal: Issued for participation in an Asiatic Campaign event. WWII Victory Medal: Issued for belonging to the winning side in an event.
