* Commisioned into VF-17 on 12 December 2002 as an Ensign. Became a "Plankowner" for Fighting 17 as he was commissioned into the squadron during our first combat deployment.
* Earned Carrier Qualification on 14 February 2003.
* Purple Heart and Air Medal awarded for participation in Snapshot: Rabaul event in AH.
* Attained Master Naval Aviator certification on 28 February 2003. After completing carrier qualifications in all possible carrier borne aircraft within the game.
* Earned Gold Star for completing carrier qualifications during combat operations in the game on 28 February 2003.
* Became Division Leader on 28 February 2003.
* Promoted to Lt (jg.) on 1 March 2003.
