My name is George Pararas-Carayannis
and this is my Earthquake Page which is linked also to some of
my other pages with miscellaneous information on Tsunamis, Volcanoes,
Hurricanes and other Natural Disasters, mostly from my own writings
and publications
I have been
involved primarily in Tsunami Research with the Hawaii Institute
of Geophysics of the University of Hawaii and with the United
States Government for more than 35 years, and served as Director
of the World Data Center A-Tsunami and as Director of the International
Tsunami Information Center (ITIC). Additionally, I have been
serving as consultant to different United Nations scientific
organizations, several international governmental and non-governmental
organizations and to private industry(brief
bio-summary).
I was co-founder and officer of two prestigious scientific organizations:
The Tsunami Society and the International Hazards Society. For
more than twenty years, I served as the Tsunami Advisor for the
State of Hawaii's Civil Defense.
This Earthquake Page has been prepared for public information,
as a community service, and in support of other Pages on the
Net dealing with the same subject matter. Links to such other
sites are provided below. I have no sponsor and I am solely responsible
for the accuracy of the contents. This Page is under continuous
construction. A great deal more material and updates to the information
will be added, as my time permits.
Material
provided at this website on earthaquakes is for informative and
educational purposes only. Predictions of earthquakes presented
here are based primarily on results of statistical determinations
of the historical recurrence frequencies of such events. Such
historical/statistical approaches are used only for long-term
predictions. The state-of-the-art in earthquake prediction is
still far from being an exact science. Although the location
of future events can be determined, an exact time prediction
is not possible at the present time. There is no intent by the
author to predict or forecast any type of earthquakes or to frighten
people.
Because
of numerous email inquiries, I may not be able to respond immediately.
However, I will make every effort to respond within a few days.
Comments, inquiries, or for my Professional
Consulting Services, please contact me by e-mail .
In addition
to this Earthquake Page I have started a Website
on Tsunamis
and another Home
Page with
some miscellaneous, non-technical writings and poems - some of
the latter featured also in the International
Poetry Hall of Fame
My new book THE
