Fort Tilden Memories – Jay Sullivan - 1952-1957

Thanks to the family of Jay Sullivan, a former veteran stationed at Fort tilden in the 1950's, we are able to share some of his photos and the story of his military career.
Jay Sullivan enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and fought at Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He married the former Sophie Schmidt in 1948 in Erlangen, Germany.
He was sent to Korea in 1950 and served with the First Rock Division. He received the Korea Service Medal with five bronze service stars, the United Nations Medal, Army Occupational Medal, European African Medal, Sharpshooter Badge, four Good Conduct Medals, and the Guided Missile Badge.
Jay retired in 1966 after serving in the Army for 23 and one-half years. He passed away in Augusta, Maine, on April 10, 1994. He is survived by his wife Sophie, two children, Patricia Caswell, and Elke Kancilia, thre sisters, one brother, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Jay Sullivan passed away in 1994.
A Message from Jay Sullivan’s Daughter:
I would love to hear from some one who knew my dad. He would be so pleased with this site, if only he was alive as he could give you names dates and activities that went on there. Mom mentioned a guy named Angelini (I think thats how you spell it). Robert Piper, who was there also, mentioned that my dad seemed to know everyone, and how he went out of his way to help anyone that needed it.
