According to the Muster and Descriptive Rolls of Illinois Civil War Units, William served as a Private in the 87th Regiment Company 'K' Infantry at the age of 18 from Sept. 23,1862 to June 16,1865. Morris Doerr Robley

On May 7, 1944 Morris started his first mission during the WWII European campaign under the USAF 486th Heavy Bomber Squadron. Click Here to find out more. The Robley family, as stated by Morris Robley, was well established in the Carmi, White County, Illinois area. Also, other small towns in the area were Burnt Prairie and Crossville. These small towns may have been in connection to the Doerr family. Morris Robley's grandfather and grandmother Doerr both died at an early age, and he recalls that his mother was only 14 when they passed. Morris Robley's grandparents first names are unknown but they did own a 240 acre farm in the area (not White County). Jean Shanklin is the daughter of Fred G. Shanklin (1897-1982) and Willow C. Wyrick (1895-1981). Fred G. Shanklin is the son of John C. Shanklin and Molly Olds. The Shanklin family came to Carrol County, Indiana, near Bringhurst in 1834. Jean Shanklin's Great Grandfather settled on a land grant farm near there. John C. Shanklin, was in the hardware and feed buisness in Bringhurst before moving to Frankfort and starting a hardware and farm implement business in 1892. He died in 1925. |
