The Boss Planet, named after the Roman chief god known to the Greeks
as Zeus (related to the Greek word for God, Theus and our word, theology),
Jupiter is the fifth planet out from the Sun. It is one of the four outer
"gaseous" planets (that also include Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto). Like
the former first two, Jupiter is huge--i.e., 300X Earth's mass--and is a
mixture of helium, methane, ammonia and other such toxic gases. Jupiter boasts of having the greatest number of moons: 18 (Uranus has 17). As the supreme
deity in Greco-Roman "religion," Jupiter enjoys a lot of authority. It
bosses a string of natural satellites, all of whom are either inactive or
dynamically volcanic, cratered clinkers that are at the mercy of the giant ball's gravity.
Jupiter is this site's Boss, the place where assignments and
orders are issued.
