There is no such thing as culture like the higher learning institutions would lead us to believe. There is also no such thing as dual citizenship. Therefore, German/American is also a misnomer.

Ragnar! Thanks for your note from of all places Korea! I thought you signed up on the condition that they send you to the Old Country--but strange, as we all know, are the ways of the military. As you can see, I've e-mail again. Utterly not secure, but it's at least some contact. Hope this thing reaches you and that you're thriving despite where they've sent you. Getting some good work done. Thought I'd try clarifying Nine Noble Virtues, & have got more involved than I expected. Must away for now, All the best in our Gods, our Heroes, and our Kin, David

Of course we don’t want to withhold a special titbit from you. The Irminsul of Bernhard Röck. You can find the Irminsul on our Website http://www.grass-gmbh.de in the left corner on the bottom. The Irminsul, relic of the freedom-loving, heathen saxons. In 772, after the capture of Eresburg, the Irminsul was destroyed in the course of the campaign of Big Karl against the saxons. The Irminsul had the shape similar to a column, which probably constitutes the column which supports the canopy of heaven. The places at which was standing one of these Irminsuls or other germanic cult-spots were treated in aspecial way by Big Karl and the missionaries. The method was to take over these germanic Feierstätten and to build a cristian monument in their place. For example, at the place where is located the old teutonic observatory of the Externsteine (Egg-steren-steine = starstones at the Egg),near Horn in the teutonic forrest they built a christian chapel. An early christian relief describing the taking-down from the cross is chiseled into one of these stones. The disciple who is taking Jesus Christ down from the cross is standing on the bended Irminsul, the symbol of life which was going to be destroyed by Big Karl later on. This fact explicitly points to the taking possession of this heathen relic by the new doctrine. Of special interest in this context is, that the legs of the figure (the disciple) standing on the bended (not broken!) Irminsul have been taken away violently. This didn’t happen by chance, but could be explained in the following way: Our germanic ancestors, very much rooted in the faith in nature, didn’t want to accept that a representative of the new doctrine, which had been forced onto them, would dishonour the holy symbol. All of those who dared to show and praise the symbol of the Irminsul in the following centuries were executed. Nowadays we are able to show and offer you this symbol of the heathen saxons without endangering our lives. The Irminsul was manufactured by Bernhard Röck, a leading ivory-carver from the world-famous Erbach in the Odenwald. The Irminsul consists of 20 to 30 thousand year old marfil of mammoth (which isn´t liable to the trade-restrictions of elephant’s marfil!). The marfil was found in the fossil ice-walls at the coast of the polar sea in eastern siberia. The piece of art is unique, because it was built out of unique and mystic material. Pay attention to the diferent colouring of the sides. We offer this object of cult for sale by auction. Lowest bid: $ 2300 Please submit your bid per E-mail (adress:see below). We’d be delighted to send you more views of this relic on your request. The knocking-down will ensue the 30est of august 1998 at 11 p.m. (CET). But you can also buy a small version of the Irminsul (5cm * 5cm). You can use it as a piece of jewelry. The price will be $160,-- plus shipping and maybe tax. Sincerely yours, Ulrich H.
