Volunteer Opportunities

There are many opportunities to volunteer at Medlock--whether you help with a one-time event or ongoing tasks, the result will be a better school experience for your child and a sense of pride and accomplishment for your whole family.

If you have questions, concerns, suggestions or ideas please contact one of the PTA Officers or committee chairpersons.

Medlock P.T.A. 2002 - 2003 Committees:

Fall Fund-raiser

Volunteers help select appropriate fundraising activity during summer then send out information, monitor sales and collect funds. Proceeds supply about 40% of PTA Budget for school year!
Chair: Cynthia Slade 4/298-9106

Building & Grounds

Do you have a green thumb or just like to dig in the dirt? Can you paint a wall or just yourself? Skill and know-how don’t matter ... Just a willing heart and a little time is all it takes to keep Medlock looking her best! Seasonal workdays and special projects scheduled throughout the year.
Chair: Julie Seckman 4/982-9492

Book Fair

Help children and parents explore the wonderful world of books through the annual Scholastic book fair. Volunteers order, set up and sell books during some school hours and at PTA meetings. A little time goes a long way on this committee as our children benefit from reading and the proceeds benefit the new computer lab!
Chair: April Tribur 4/321-1149

Cultural Arts

A Faculty advisor and volunteers plan fun stuff as they select and schedule artists and cultural programs for the student body. Activities are coordinated with the school events calendar and cirriculum topics.
Chair: Patti Swift 4/298-1939

Hospitality

Everyone appreciates the work of this committee as volunteers provide refreshments and decorations for special PTA meetings and school sponsored functions. Many hands equal easy work so sign up today!
Co-Chairs: Donna & Jeff Sherrill 4/294-8135

May Madness

If you like having fun then this committee is for you! The annual spring carnival is a great way to promote school spirit and raise funds while having fun. There is something for everyone to do!
Co-Chairs: Julie Seckman 4/982-9492, Sheila Falgout 4/315-8393, Linda Goddard 4/325-5581

Membership/Community Relations

Did you know that PTA stands for POWER? As involved parents we have the power to make sure our children receive the best education possible. That’s why this committee is so important as they conduct the annual membership drive, inform members and the local community about activities and, report to the State & National Organization...it’s not just numbers...it’s who stands behind those numbers ... YOU!
Chair: Michael & Kaye Smith 4/248-0893

T-shirts

Yes, those Medlock shirts look cute on our kids, but they also serve to identify our school on field trips and during special functions! But, you can’t buy them at the mall. Volunteers are needed to approve design, order shirts and sell during the year. Besides looking great, the proceeds benefit our children!
Chair: Joanna Lyons 4/298-5808_

Newsletter

We can’t read each others minds but we can read the Medlock Newsletter! This is a very important communication tool to help inform parents, students & teachers about events, activities, concerns and needs at Medlock. Volunteers gather articles from other committees and faculty, layout and print this valuable resource published monthly. Computer or Newsletter design skills would be helpful but necessary.
Chair: Patrice Fessenden (calvert@aol.com) 4/728-9018 &
Diana Simmons (diana_r_simmons@fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us) 4/299-2218

Nature Trail / Earth Day

Do you like to walk in the woods, watch a squirrel scamper up a tree or listen to a song bird? Did you know that our children can do all of these things and more with your help on this committee! Volunteers maintain our school’s nature trail as well as organize and participate in the Spring Earth Day activities. When we teach our children to care for the Earth we secure their future!
Chair: Karen Greer 4/636-7453

Room Parents

One of the best things you can do for your child at Medlock is be involved in their classroom! Volunteers coordinate special activities throughout the school year. A little time goes a very long way to support your child’s teacher and enhance their learning experience.
Chair: Cindy Clark 4/321-0206

School Pictures

Smile! Volunteers coordinate individual (Fall) & Class (Spring) photographs. Minimum time invested with a lifetime of memories as the result. Say Cheese!
Chair: Junior Abraham 4/633-1407
