1 Thes 5:9
God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to
obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ...

Here wrath doesn't mean the tribulation,
and salvation doesn't mean the rapture,
because us means all Christians, and
there will be many of us Christians in
the tribulation.

The wrath God has not appointed us to
is His eternal wrath:

John 3:36
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting
life: and he that believeth not the Son shall
not see life; but the wrath of God abideth
on him.

1 Thes 1:10
Jesus... delivered us from the wrath to come.

Here wrath doesn't mean the tribulation,
and delivered doesn't mean the rapture,
because us means all Christians, and
there will be many of us Christians in
the tribulation.

The wrath Jesus delivered us from is God's
eternal wrath:

John 3:36
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting
life: and he that believeth not the Son shall
not see life; but the wrath of God abideth
on him.

Rom 2:5-8
After thy hardness and impenitent heart
treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the
day of wrath and revelation of the righteous
judgment of God; Who will render to every man
according to his deeds: To them who by patient
continuance in well doing seek for glory and
honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto
them that are contentious, and do not obey the
truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation
and wrath...

Here wrath doesn't mean the tribulation,
and eternal life doesn't mean the rapture,
because every man means all men, even those
who die before the tribulation or rapture,
and there will be many of us Christians in
the tribulation.

Wicked men have died for thousands of years
without going through the tribulation, but
they will not escape God's wrath, and believers
have died for thousands of years without going
through the rapture, but they will still inherit
eternal life, just as will those who will live
to enter into the tribulation.

The wrath spoken of here is God's eternal wrath:

John 3:36
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting
life: and he that believeth not the Son shall
not see life; but the wrath of God abideth
on him.

Eph 2:3-5
We... were by nature the children of wrath...
But... by grace ye are saved...

Here wrath doesn't mean the tribulation, and
saved doesn't mean the rapture, because we
and ye means all Christians, and there will
be many Christians in the tribulation.

The wrath we are saved from is God's
eternal wrath:

John 3:36
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting
life: and he that believeth not the Son shall
not see life; but the wrath of God abideth
on him.

There is a wide range to his wrath:

Mark 3:5
He... looked round about on them with anger (orge).

1 Thes 5:9
God hath not appointed us to wrath (orge).

We can be appointed to God's chastening and
judgment without being appointed to His eternal
wrath in hell:

Rev 3:19
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten...

Heb 12:11
Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be
joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it
yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness
unto them which are exercised thereby.

Ezek 21:4
I will cut off from thee the righteous and the
wicked...

1 Pet 4:17-18
For the time is come that judgment must begin
at the house of God: and if it first begin at
us, what shall the end be of them that obey
not the gospel of God? And if the righteous
scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and
the sinner appear?

While we can be appointed to God's tribulational
anger and chastening, most of the suffering of the
tribulation will be from wars, natural disasters,
and their after-effects, such as famines and
epidemics -- all of which Christians whom God was
not angry with have had to endure throughout the
centuries. The persecution and martyrdom of the
Church under the rule of the Antichrist will recall
that under the Roman Emperors.

God CAN be angry with us. So angry that he will
rebuke and chasten us:

Rev 3:19
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten...

Don't you have a child that you love with
all your heart? And can't you be angry
with your child and punish him when he does wrong?

Jesus even got angry with His disciples:
Lk 9:55, Mk 8:33.

To say that Jesus can never get angry with
us is not supportable by scripture.

Rev 3:16
I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Our relationship with Jesus includes the full
range of his emotions, just as your relationship
with your child involves all of your emotions.

Thank God we have a real God, and that neither
he nor we must pretend we feel one thing when
really we feel another.

Jesus will let us know how he feels toward
us, if we are his children. If we are not
his children, he will not reveal himself
to us personally, but only through his judgment.
