God is Allah

Many people think that the name Allah represents some foreign deity. But in reality, the God of Islam is the same God of all of the Prophets, since the beginning of time.Prophet Adam to Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon them all) have all worshipped the same God, whose name is Allah.

Definition of the name Allah: The One True God of mankind and the universe

Why Allah, why not God, or YAHWEH, etc.? During ancient times worshippers used the name "Elah" in the old testament, which is a Hebrew name for God. The name Allah is an Arabic form of that same name, the Hebrew and Arabic languages bear many similarities.

The importance of the name Allah is two-fold.
One, this is the name that God calls Himself in the Noble Quran the majority of the time.
Two, because the name Allah is unique and unequivocal. The word has no plural form, such as god and gods. In addition, the name has no masculine or feminine form, such as god and goddess.

The foundation of Islam is simple. God, Allah is One.
This concept can best be described in the following surah, or chapter of the Quran, Surat Al-Iklas, or The Purity.

Surah 112: Al-Ikhlâs or At-Tauhîd
In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
Say: He is Allâh, (the) One.

(The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks).
He begets not, nor was He begotten;
And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him.
