Heartbreak Hotel

It's the long hot summer of 1956. Some college campuses are starting to have some agitated activity over integration, but that has not happened at Randolph University. Nor does Maggie care much about this. She is getting ready to start her senior year at Randolph University. Everyone loves Maggie Deloach, one of the most popular girls on campus with everything going for her. An impeccable lineage. Picture-perfect looks, pinned to the Kappa Alpha who has the plantation in Mississippi. So why does Maggie feel that there is something missing, something unfulfilled? She meets a newspaperman that makes her uncomfortable with his rhetoric about the upcoming revolution on integration. Then, amid the stifling heat of an Alabama summer, everything changes Not until she spends a weekend with her fraternity boyfriend, Boots, that she realizes she has something in common with a black man that she meets-she is just as trapped and afraid in her life as he is. There is talk of a racial revolution brewing, one that surely should not touch her protected world... but somehow does. There is growing sexual awareness that she knows should shock her... yet does not. There is a single act of defiance and courage that will forever alter the way others think of her... and how Maggie thinks herself.
