The Gospel -- Propositions
by Rev. Paul A. Hughes, M.Div.
- If we believe the Gospel, it must be the Truth (else we need not believe it).
- If the Gospel is true, it is the most important thing in the world (for the world was made for Christ).
- If the Gospel is the most important thing in the world, we should then live accordingly ("Go, and do thou likewise").
- To live accordingly, we must make the Gospel our first priority.
- If the Gospel is our first priority, then it follows:
- we must let nothing interfere with it
- we must dedicate major portions of our time, energy, and resources to declaring it
- we must neglect unnecessary things in order to pursue it with diligence
- we must excise from our daily lives any activities, involvements, relationships, and pursuits that are not fruitful toward the Gospel, or detract from it
- we must live in a way that exemplifies it
- Hence,
- we must straighten out our personal priorities
- we must make the necessary lifestyle changes, immediately, to fulfill the Gospel mandate
- we must "leave all" and "sell all we have and give it to the poor" (in a figurative sense) and "follow Him."
