What They Cut Out of Gladiator

"Gladiator" gets my vote for Best Picture this year. Not that I've seen most of the others, but Gladiator has a largeness and spectacle to it rivaled by few others, thanks to computer animation. Using computer-generated graphics, its technicians re-created Rome, and the Coliseum in particular, in a way that would be cost-prohibitive by other means. As a fan of ancient history and archaeology, I find the result fascinating.
