BIBLICAL ERRORS
by Bill Moore
Mark 7: 7-9 (Read Scriptures)
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the
commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as
the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye
may keep your own tradition.
INTRODUCTION: If you study your bible like you should you will soon
find error in the ways of other peoples interpretation of the scriptures. Most
likely you will find, as I did how much in error I was, regarding what the
scripture actually meant. How often have you heard someone say, " Money is
the root of all evil"? Or how many times have you heard "Baptism does
not save us, all we have to do is believe in Christ"? Well this morning we
are going to go over a few of the many different types of scriptural errors
proclaimed in todays society and through out time.
- SALVATION:
- Error: Baptism is merely a bodily act and concerns not the heart.
- Truth: Rom 6:17: But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of
sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was
delivered you.
- Error: Baptism is merely a "Church ordinance,"
Truth: Acts 10:48 and he commanded them to be baptized in the name of
the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
 | Error: We are not buried in baptism. |
Truth: Col 2:12-13 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are
risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him
from the dead.
- And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath
he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
e. Error: You dont have to have water to be baptized
Truth: Acts 8:36-37
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the
eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.
And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both
into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord
caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way
rejoicing.
f. Error: There are many kinds of baptisms
Truth: Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
 | THE CHURCH: |
- Errors: 1. The kingdom is not the church.
- The Church was established by John the Baptist.
Truth: Matt 16:18-19
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will
build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and
whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever
thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
- Error: Man created the church for man.
Truth: Eph 3:10-11
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly
places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
- According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our
Lord:
- Error: The church was not that important to Christ.
Truth: Acts 20:28
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which
the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he
hath purchased with his own blood.
 | Error: A man can be saved outside the Church or doesnt need a Church;
all he has to do is read the bible. |
Truth: Eph 5:23
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of
the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
 | Error: Join our church. Our elders will vote you into the church. The Lord
wants you in a denomination. Once every few months there is a day for getting
into the Church. After you are saved, you might want to become a member of the
Church. |
Truth: Acts 2:47
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added
to the church daily such as should be saved.
 | Error: The Lord doesnt mind all the different denominations. |
Truth: 1 Cor 1:10
10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that
ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that
ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
(NOTE) Where some churchs started.
- Roman Catholic Church, Rome, A.D. 606, by Boniface III (the first
full-grown pope.)
- Lutheran Church, Augsburg, 1530, by Martin Luther
- Presbyterian Church, (Calvinism), Switzerland, 1535, by John Calvin
- Episcopal Church, England, 1535 by Henry VIII.
- Baptist Church (first one), London 1607, by John Smith.
- Baptist Church (first one in America), Providence, RI, 1639, by
Roger Williams
- Methodist Church, London, 1729, by John Wesley.
- Mormon Church, Fayette, New York, 1830, by Joseph Smith
- Adventism, Massachusetts, 1831, by William Miller
- Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1846, by Mr. & Mrs. James White.
- Christian Science Church, Boston, Mass. 1879, My Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy.
- Holiness Church, Chicago, 1907, by Howard Hoople.
- Assemblies of God, 1914, Hot Springs, AR, by a group of "Holiness
People"
Although I only named a few of the many different types of denominations
here, I think you get the general idea that the only true church is the one
Christ built.
- Repentance:
a. Error: Prodigals may repent, but they do not have to confess their faults
and ask forgiveness.
Truth: Acts 8:22
22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the
thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
Truth: Luke 15:21
21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in
thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
- Error: A Christian cannot fall away so far that he cannot repent.
Truth: Heb 6:4-6
- For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted
of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
- And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
- If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they
crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
- CONCLUSION:
If you do not repent and ask forgiveness of your sins, God will not forgive
you! The next time you sit down to read your bible, really study and read it,
and you too will find many inconsistencies with man-made doctrine.
Christs word is all we need.

Preach
the word; be instant in season, out of season;
reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and
