Discussion of the Book

Having different, and sometimes similar views, we are going to have
a discussion about the Book of the Month :). If you would like to add some of your opinions
about the book, please feel free to e-mail us or sign our guestbook,
and we'll read them and put up what you think.. :). Also, for those who think we haven't updated on our discussions, all you gotta do is scroll alllll the way down, and there will be the latest update. Please don't forget to leave a message on the board with your thoughts on any books we've reviewed.

Outlander:M: There isn't much to say, except keep in mind a lot of the details
written in the book, because you'll have to recall them as you go on to the
second, third, and fourth book.
I'd rather not say too much about the book without giving away the plot line.

Y: I'm reading it again, yes I'm actually reading it. Like Mik, I'd rather
not talk about what's going on, until you guys tell us
that you're reading it. How many people come here anyways??

May 27: I see that 90 people have been here. Heehee, 45 of those
are me, and 45 of those are Miki. I have actually moved on, and
am reading 'Voyager', the third book in the series. So. What to do,
what to do. I'm not going to write anything about 'Voyager', because that
would be mean. Just to tell you that there's plenty of SEX, just like the first two.
*grin*
Later all. Yudz.

1998-July 17: M: Wow, I've FINALLY done some work on the page. So. I hope whoever is reading Voyager will find it a lot more amusing and fun than the first two books. Voyager is my favourite out of all the books in the series. Now that it's summer, and the mucky swamp of endless final tests and exams are over, I hope people have started to pick up on their summer reading

August: M: We're on the last book in the Outlander series! *Gasp* This means waiting till the year 1999 or so, until we'll see Jamie and Claire again! I'm not quite sure when "King, Farewell" comes out, but I hope it will be sooner than that.
I just have to say I that I LOVE the return of John Grey. Who can resist liking that character?
Anyway, there is a signifigant discovery in this book, where more has been revealed of the time holes. I am speaking of... Ta da! Another area of "Standing Stones" near the residence of Jamie and Claire! I'm sure this fact will be useful in the next book. More later!

OutlanderDragonfly in AmberVoyagerDrums of Autumn
These are the covers of the 'Outlander' series up until now. Ms. Gabaldon has
two more books in the making, 'The Fiery Cross' and the last
one, tentatively called 'King, Farewell'. So. Go to your local
bookstore and find these covers.. I GUARANTEE you'll enjoy
yourself. Alot. You'll be whooping and.. hehe.. wishing for Red Jamie
to be with you, if you know what I mean..!

(Miki) October 16, 1998: Sorry, sorry, sorry, I have neglected write anything here for the past while. I would like to make a comment on the September book of the month, which I think is Fall on Your Knees, by Anne-Marie MacDonald. I had to read the book twice because I was unclear on what happened in the novel. This is the kind of story where one has to read every sentence to get the small details. So if you haven't read the book yet, don't read the rest from this point -**There are SPOILERS**.
Okay. Let me set this straight. Kathleen got pregnant in New York, and that is when she gave birth to Ambrose and Lily -no argument here. But one thing my friends, and I on the first time reading, have missed is WHO FATHERED the children? It never directly says so, I don't think, but this is it: James Piper is the father. You'll note also that James is Kathleen's father. So this is basically incest. James rapes Kathleen when he finds her in the apartment with Rose. And Rose is a GIRL. A very masculine girl, obviously. Lily's first meeting with Rose referrs to her a man, which tends to throw readers off their track, I think. Well.. I guess that's all I have to say. If you have any comments, feel free to use the message board.

The Perfect Storm: I'm about halfway through. Sometimes the amounts of description makes me fall asleep, and I mean no offence. I mean, does anyone know exactly how fast or slow a "knot" is? As in conversion to km/h? By the way, happy halloween!

Tara Road:

Ally McBeal (Nelle on far left) Rosemary??? If you've read the book, then I don't know f it's just me or if I've been watching too much TV, but doesn't Rosemary's description make her look a little like Nelle Porter (actress Portia de Rossi, the new blond lawyer) from "Ally McBeal"? By the way, Nelle is my favorite character, and although Rosemary is not as pure or faithful as we would like her to be, I really picture Rosemary as Nelle.

(Yuri)March 14 1999: Hello folks. Yes, I'm still alive.
Obviously I haven't been keeping up with the site.. I've been all over the states, and haven't had the chance to go to a computer!
Actually, I'm in Los Angeles right now, waiting for my parents to get here. They're coming to visit from Vancouver, British Columbia, where Miki and I are originally from. They're driving down, so they shouldn't get here until tomorrow morning or afternoon. I'm not reading any books right now, unfortunately.. but I did see 'The Horse Whisperer' in my room, so I may read it while I'm here. Have any of you seen the movie? I haven't.. but I heard that it was good.. it was a while ago tho. Ok, so now that I'm babbling, I should go.
I hope that everything is going well with you guys, and Miki.. a letter should be coming your way.. snail mail and email. So.. adios all, 'til next time. Yudz.

(Yuri)April 15 '99: It seems like I'm writing in here every month.. I feel bad because what I'm contributing to the site is next to nothing.. actually, nothing. BUT. Yeah.
I'm in New York, in Barrytown, at the Unification Theological Seminary (UTS) We're here until tomorrow for a workshop to end this period of time of doing stuff. Yeah.. so are there any people from NY? It's beautiful.
I havn't been reading any books. Actually, that's a lie. I read 'Pandora' by Anne Rice. My brother brought it for me when he come down with my parents last month. It's a really cool book, mostly set in Roman times, at the time of the Fall of the Empire. Really interesting stuff. About a woman in a high position in Roman community forced to run to Athens when her sly and conniving brother betrays the family. There she meets an old friend, Marius, who has become a vampire already. It's a story of love and eternal friendship. It's very good.
Another one I read is 'Lady of Avalon' by Marion Zimmer Bradly. It's about a group of women starting from 100 A.D., spanning 7 or 8 generations. You know the Arthurian Legends? It's the foundation for that period. About a Sisterhood and a Brotherhood.. the Avalonian Tradition of Wicca and Druidism. I was actually a Wiccan for a little while, so I can relate to the book, but I don't know how many of you will.
Anyways, they're both good books, and I enjoyed them. I hope all is well with you out there, and hopefully we'll be able to do more things on this site soon, like our pictures for anyone who wants to see them. Teehee. Alright. That's it.
Laterz, Yudz.

April 20, 1999: Miki: Hi all. Believe it or not, I am STILL reading 'A Suitable Boy'. I feel somewhat inadequate in my reading because I have NEVER taken so long in reading ONE book (Even if it is 1500 pages). So if ANYONE has botherd to read it, please e-mail me or sign the guestbook, telling me how long it took you to finish it! I will TRY to finish it by the end of the month but I highly doubt it. I am 3/4 through, and and I have 5 books still waiting to be read. Also, for those curious about me and Yuri, pics of us are on the way! I just have to scan them and choose which ones. More later!

April 26, 1999: BIG NEWS! I, Miki Minami, have FINALLY after three and a half long toiling months, FINISHED 'A Suitable Boy' by Vikram Seth! {Applause}
I would just like to say that I was a little (okay, a lot) disappointed in Lata's decision to marry Haresh (and his co-respondant shoes). For anyone who has decided to read this book, I thought Kabir was the one. Oh well. Now onto the May... Gosh, already? Anyhoo, now I have to get started on the May book of the month. By the way, I'm still in the process of getting our pics scanned and then sent to Yuri for her to choose which ones to put up, which shoudn't be a problem considering how she is so darn photogenic. I'm starting to babble, so until then, Happy Reading.

May 11, 1999:Thought I would update a bit about the Stone Diaries. In short, in made me realise just how much can happen in one lifetime to one person. It opens your eyes to see that every old man, old woman, even your parents have a story worth telling (scary... the part about parents). What disturbed me was how Daisy's kids never really cared who their mother was. The woman before Mrs. Greenthumb, the woman whose first husband dies on the honeymoon... It makes you think just how many untold stories there are about the people around us in our everyday lives.

May 15th '99Yuri: Hello again. I am now in St. Louis and I'm going to be here for a while. I'm with a group people, six of us, who are starting up a chapter of Pure Love Alliance, an abstinence group. You know, not having sex 'til you're married? Anyways. Yeah. It's getting a really good response! People are really positive and everything, and they want us to come and talk to their kids. I didn't know how people would feel towards this topic here, but anyways. If you agree or disagree, just write to me and tell me.

May 28th 1999: Yuri So hi. I'm not in St. Louis anymore, I'm in Chicago. I actually didn't read what Miki wrote until now, and it's true, you never know the amount of untold stories there are about people. Take me for example. You don't know me. You probably never will. But there are things about me that you will never know. There are things about Miki you will never know. You all out there have your own little stories. I don't know where I'm going with this. But. Yeah. I'm just babbling. That's basically why I post anything on this site. It's to babble and not have anyone respond. That's nice, once in a while. I'm in Chicago, getting ready to teach in schools. Yup. Morals are back. And we're starting it with PLA. Miki has mixed feelings about this, so I won't talk about it anymore.
I'm now reading a book called "Wizard and Glass" by Stephen King. It's pretty good. It's the fourth in a series called 'The Dark Tower' about 1 man, Roland Deschain of Gilead, New Caanan and the three friends he has made from the past. Which is actually from our time. Roland is a Gunslinger, a futuristic cowboy. See Roland is from a time past our own. All the things that the 'Old People' made, is from our time now. They talk about 'muties' and things, cats with 6 legs and horses born with their guts hanging out. It's classic King, full of fantasy and horror.. and I like it. I have the first three books at home, and my friend Paul lent me this one. After that I'll probably read "Queen of the Damned" by Anne Rice. I'm addicted to the Vampire Chronicles. I'll read them over and over again, and never get tired. Yup.
I think that's enough babbling, don't you think? I'll write again real soon. Yudz

June 8, 1999: Miki:I regret to admit that I haven't really progressed in the Hunchback of Notre Dame due to the fact that I have exams and I'm up to my elbows in homework.
I just want to clarify, as Yuri has mentioned briefly, I am not affiliated with the Pure Love Alliance. But if you are interested in it, or what is is and so forth, you can contact her about that. What I AM affiliated with, though, is books. So if you readers out there have any suggestions, please leave a message in the guest book!

June 13, '99: Yuri:Hi all. How are you? I'm still in Chicago, and I'm still doing PLA. I will be doing this until July 1st, when the PLA tour starts.. in DC, then travelling to Miami and stuff. Pretty nice. Then I will be going home! For 3 weeks, and I will see Miki for the 1st time in 1 year. Pretty excited.. :)
I haven't been reading any books lately. The last one was 'Queen of the Damned' and I read that today, and finished it today. When I get home, I'll get more.. hopefully. There is a library nearby, but since I can't drive here, and I won't get my license for a while, it would take a while. heehee. As of now, that is all I have to say. Sad, isn't it?? Alright. Hope to hear from you guys sometime.. Yudz
Oh yeah! I read Hunchback before. It's a really good book, about love and law and .. I don't remember the rest. But I did read it. Hey Mik, another one to read is 'Les Miserables' by Victor Hugo. I'm sure you've all heard of it.. and the musical and stuff. Anyways, yeah, it really is good. Yudz

June 14, 1999: Miki:Thought I would update a bit. Readers, pay attention!! I have just read the most AMAZING book!! It will be the book of the month for July, so just wait a few more weeks! It is SUCH A good book, it's absolutely captivating (I'm just telling Yuri about it now over the phone). Anyway, I cannot WAIT to tell you what the book is!! But you'll have to wait :) I find it so interesting because I have never come across such a topic before, in such a totally different culture. I finished it in less than two days because I couldn't put it down. So if you want to know what's I'm writing about, come back to the website in July to find out!

PS Today is also my birthday!!!!

Miki: August 15, 1999: Forgive the lateness of my updating... no thanks to Yuri who promised to do the August book of the month but changed her mind! ;)
OK, well I've got the August book of the month, and Yuri will be doing the September one, if she gets off her lazy butt to do so :). I'm also hoping to get better pics up, considering a) you can't see much with the quality if the scanning, and b) Both Yuri and I changed our hair so we're waiting till we find a nice scanner with a nice owner to let us use it :).
Comments, anywone? -Not about us, but about the page... I think such an amateur page such as this would get more complaint or tips but...

PS, Yuri also thinks she looks like Monica Lewsinky in one of the photos... Well... there are new pics coming, enough said ;)!

Miki: February 12, 2000: Wow, I've finally updated! Hee hee. OKOK, I've finally got a picture of myself scanned, which you can find under Liber Libri Java Drinkers. Now I'm just working on getting a recent picture of Yuri that she'll let me put up on the page... Hee hee. I'm afraid I haven't updated much under the discussion but I'm working on reformatting the page right now, so it's a little more user friendly (i.e. Frames and what not). That's all for now!

July 11, 2000: Miki: Yuri the lazy sloth is supposed to update the July book of the month, but she hasn't done it yet so sorry!!! Yuri, you are such a lazy butt-head :P
