How to Subscribe to the Bookies |
There are several ways in wich we communicate our love of books and each other. First and foremost is the Bookies listserver. You send a message in to the server and it distributes it to all your fellow Bookies. Below you woll find both subscription and unsubsctiption instructions. For off topic (OT) discussions we try to talk in our Bookie Bunker. Many moons ago we had a raging war over several books that were not on reading schedule and someone started pelting mainstream messages with jelly beans! Suddenly a machete appeared from Bolivia and sent us scampering for cover in the cellar! No, this is not VRML we are discribing... it is a network of friendships and support that came from sharing may personal experiences that parallel books we are reading. Farther below you will see listed similar instructions for coming down to the bunker to hide from your bookstore tab with us. Lastely we LOVE to chat. We have a room on Delphi that is WebTV compliant (no Java) and while there is no set chatting schedule we meet as often as we can. Subscribe to Main Salon To join in the fray all it takes is a painless piece of mail! Send an email to: In the body of the e-mail put: subscribe oprah-book Then sit back and wait for your inbox to fill up. If you are able to filter incoming messages it is STRONGLY suggested that you set up a separate folder for this list to do so. Pre-Digested Subscription If you are not able to filter your mail then there is a 'Digest' version available. rather then individual pieces of e-mail you will receive one LARGE file with all of the mail for that day listed. If this is more your speed: Send an email to: In the body of the email put: subscribe oprah-book-digest Unsubscribe Please unsubscribe from the list if you are going away for awhile and are using an auto-responder. This causes messages to be sent back to the list repeatedly. Members who have repetitive bounced mail for 3 days will be removed from the list. The reason for this could be you have a full mailbox or problems with your server. Send an email to: In the body of the e-mail put: unsubscribe oprah-book or unsubscribe oprah-book-digest Depending on which flavor you subscribed to in the first place. If you suddenly find that you are not receiving mail for one week from the list please contact Judy Cates and she will see that your e-mail gets through! If you have any questions pertaining to joining or canceling your subscription to our merry bunch of book reading elves please contact our snow white (in postal blue) Judy Cates. The Bunker To join the fun: Send an email to: In the body of the e-mail put: subscribe thebunker Make sure that 'thebunker' is all one word! While the talk in the bunker is not as fast and furious as the main list a filter is recomended. There is no digest version of the Bunker available. To take a bunker break: Send an email to: In the body of the e-mail put: unsubscribe thebunker IRC Chat We are in a quest for the perfect Bookie chat environment... Delphi and Yahoo! can't cut it so we are trying Talkcity, but it isn't as good as the one and only IRC... Since WebTv seems to be able to handle the IRC server of coice e may have found a chatting home! This requires an IRC program, send a general massage to the group if you are on WebTv and someone can tell you how to get there :-)! The simplest one seems to be mIrc. It can be downloaded from mIRC . Once installed the server of choice is irc.superlink.net. Once connected to the server you want to open a channel named "bookies." It is not a dedicated channel so don't even bother to look on the list :-)! You may be chatting with yourself for awhile, but if you post a message to the group you can usually find friends online to gab with! Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) by Jennifer Smiles RAK stands for Random Acts of Kindness. When you join our little RAK list all you have to do is mail me (privately) your name (one that will not embarass you for the postman to see), real address (PO Box works great), email address (please don't forget this part.... makes it easier for me to copy and paste), birthday, anniversary, or other important dates, and several lines telling about who you are and what your interests are (occupation, hobbies, etc).
When you receive a RAK nothing is required of you (although a thank you is nice). Just accept that someone did a little something to brighten your day and pass on the cheer. |
