Anne Rice has become one
of my all time favorite authors. This series of books tells the tales
of her particular brand of vampire (slightly different from my own) in
a lush, exquisitely told narrative that draws the reader in, and holds
them spellbound throughout. Interview with the Vampire is my favorite
of the lot, rivaled closely by The Vampire Lestat. Both are filled
with beautifully crafted characters and visions so vivid one can almost
see the world of these creatures come to life. I have not yet read
the last two of these works, but can recommend them on the strength of
the first four. Pandora is the start of a new series, proposed to
be individual stories of one vampire per book. My order is already
in.

These twelve books (along with a volume of short stories, a grimoire, and a new volume of research details) comprise the wonderfully rich and detailed world of the Deryni. Set in a fantasy world very similar to our own Medieval society, and populated by characters to love and hate, each work builds on the one before it weaving a brilliantly conceived history. I have read each one at least twice, and my favorites several times more than that. I was first introduced to King Kelson and his friends when I was 14 and it is now like revisiting with old friends when I pick up a Deryni book.
The Mirror of Her Dreams
Paperback
$5.59
A Man Rides Through
Paperback
$5.59
These two books are far
different from Mr. Donaldson's Thomas Covenant series. They tell
the story of a parallel world where mirrors are objects of magic.
It is a world of vast political intrigue and twists of fate that are wonderous
and unexpected. I read each book in the course of one night.
Be prepared, these books are somewhat long.
The Hobbit & Fellowship of the Ring Complete Set $19.17
What fantasy collection
is complete without this set? The wonderful tales of Middle Earth,
told in the incomparable voice that so many have come to know and love
through the years. I read the Hobbit when I was all of 10 years old
and fell in love with the entire fantasy genre.
The Collected Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe $14.00
If you want to know Edgar
Allan Poe, this is the book for you. Containing the best and most
well-know works of this often overlooked American author, this book is
a prize for the price. His writings have been inspiring, haunting
and frightening me since I was twelve.
Mary
Stewart's Merlin Trilogy
$13.97
The
Wicked Day
$10.36
I can't remember when I first read The Crystal Cave, the first in this trilogy, but it made such a grand impression on me that I was swept into The Hollow Hills and The Last Enchantment almost immediately. This set is listed at Amazon.com as Young Adult fiction, but I believe young and old alike would enjoy the story Mary Stewart presents. I discovered The Wicked Day while combing Amazon.com's amazing library. I've never read it, but it supposedly finishes the Arthurian/Merlin tale.
