The Poetry Page

I have been writing poetry for almost as long as I can remember, but I have rarely had the confidence to allow others to see my work. I have decided finally to add a section of my original poetry to my web page. I hope that you enjoy it.

      New

      Capital Punishment

Oklahoma City How horrible 168 murdered No, wait Make that 169 There, that's better

      The Colouring Book

In her first colouring book everything was red It was her favourite colour The sky, the grass, the houses all red And the grownups smiled As she grew, she found other colours The sky was bright purple, the grass orange People were often blue The adults stopped smiling She should know, by now, that everything had proper colours She was no longer a child who could see the world as she chose Look at the blood that flowed from her wrists Not some ridiculous colour like green but very red

      The Unspoken Prayer

God grant us victory in this war Help us to come home safe and whole Let it be the other young men who are maimed and killed Let it be the other families who lose their homes and die of disease and starvation Let other children be targets for missiles and play in fields filled with land mines Let thousands of other people suffer and die They are nameless and faceless and have no meaning Just take care of me. Amen.

      Songs on a Sitar

Songs on a sitar Dreams of love and death Hope for life A run for freedom Take a drink Of undiluted pain And pray to your god to be able to dance And go out and face the music
