The Slayers RPG: The Races

Here are the races of The Slayers. This isn't complete, I'm sure, but these are the races of which I know. Almayce's (top right in the picture above) race is not included since he is from another staff. For the most part, these are playable races, but some require a better reason than "I want to be ____", or are restricted. Another, less likely, playable race is Magical Creation (e.g. Zelgadis the Chimera), but you must email me for permission.

Yea, I'm a Lina/Gourry fan, too. They're so cute!Humans

Common Alignment: They are "the power between light and darkness", meaning they have the free will to choose whether they are good or evil. For the most part, humans are good and peaceful. Then there's Lina Inverse... ^_^;

Information: By far, the humans are the most common race in Slayers. They vary in occupation, alignment, size, shape, and color, as with humans in real life. Many humans, especially those inside the former Barrier, use magic on a day to day basis. The magic they use calls upon the powers of the Dark Lords, Dragon Kings, or spirits. Famous humans include Rei Magnus, Rezo the Red Priest, and the infamous Bandit Killer, Lina Inverse.

Playability: Unrestricted. In fact, I prefer you to be human.

Sore wa himitsu desu!

Mazoku

Common Alignment: Every Mazoku is evil in some way; it's part of being a Mazoku. The only exception is Valgaav, who was half Dragon.

Information: The Mazoku, whose name means "race of evil" ("ma", meaning evil, and "zoku," coming from the word "kazoku", meaning family or clan). They are in direct opposition with the dragons, and it is their ultimate goal to reduce the world to chaos and return it to the Sea of Chaos. They caused the War of the Monster's Fall and killed the Water Dragon King. Most Mazoku serve Shabranigdo, but the lesser Mazoku (e.g. brass demons and vampires) serve no one. For more information on the Mazoku, read History of The Slayers.

Playability: Villains only. You are only allowed to be a lower level Mazoku, and you must state your orders clearly, as well as who you serve. Obviously, this means you can't be a general or a priest of a Dark Lord. I love Mazoku, so you're very likely to be allowed to be one as long as you stay in canon. ^_^

Filia smash! Roar! Dragons

Common Alignment: All intelligent dragons are good; it's built into their being, since they were born to serve the gods. The lower dragons are too stupid to have an alignment because they are beasts. The only exception was Valgaav, who was half Mazoku.

Information: There are intelligent dragons, who can speak the human tongue, take human form, and cast powerful magic; they are generally peaceful. Many also worship one of the Dragon Kings and Ceiphied. There are also the lower level dragons who are really nothing more than beasts with human forms; they cannot cast magic or change form, but some can breathe fire.

I'm just a kawaii little dragon priestess with a bit of a temper. It's that namagomi Xelloss who makes me act the way I do. I just can't stand him!The strongest intelligent dragons are the Golden Dragons, also known as the Dragon Lords. The dragons who inhabited the land beyond the Desert of Destruction are all dead; Filia, pictured right, is the only survivor of Serius' massacre. My theory is that the Supreme Elder had authority only over those who worship the Fire Dragon King, and so there are still Golden Dragons. At the very least, I believe the ones who live at Dragon's Peak are alive since they serve the Water Dragon King.

Supposedly, the Ancient Dragons were the most powerful of all the dragons, but the Golden Dragons feared their power and had them all killed. Valgaav is the only survivor.

The other intelligent and playable dragons are Dimos, White, and Silver. However, the Dimos Dragons never leave the Kataart Mountains.

The lower dragons include Plasma Dragons, Black Dragons, Deep Serpents, Needle Serpents, and Mail Serpents. Their behavior is unpredictable and, at times, aggressive.

Playability: Good guys only. You must be either a gold, silver, or white dragon. Since dragons tend to isolate themselves from humans, I'd say this isn't really a good possibility unless you have a good, in-story reason.

Jiras, Yes, Boss?
Filia: Stop calling me that!Beastmen

Alignment: Like humans, they want nothing but peace. They can be either alignment, but they are more inclined to be good.

I'm too sexy for this body...Information: Beastmen vary in shape. There are fox people, fishmen, lizardmen, and whatever Grabos is. The race of beastmen itself isn't very old; they began to appear during the turmoil caused during the War of the Monster's Fall. While prejudiced against, humans seem to accept beastmen into human society; some beastmen are even hired as mercenaries.

Playability: Unrestricted. Beastmen add variety and flavor to the RPG. Right now, beastmen are unrestricted, but that doesn't mean I'll accept any human/animal combination.

Contrary to popular rumor, Gourry is not part Elf. Rowdy Gabriev (left) is simply too young for Mellyroon (left), an elf, to marry.Elves

Alignment: Elves are a peaceful, reclusive race. Their alignment is always good.

Information: Elves are generally more intelligent, have more magical skills, and live longer than humans. Highly magical races have become extinct because humans have experimented on them, and elves are in hiding because of this. However, they did help out the humans and the dragons during the War of the Monster's Fall, which also explains their reduced numbers. Elves are very rare, though Mipross Island is a known home to elves.

Playability: Good guys only. Because elves are so reclusive, it is very unlikely that I will allow you to be this race.

Want a bite? Vampires

Common Alignment: Being lesser Mazoku, they are pure evil. No exceptions.

Information: Truthfully, I know very little about the vampires in Slayers other than they are lesser Mazoku and actually called monsters. A vampire, Steindorf, appeared in Slayers Excellent: Labyrinth. Steindorf has an alternate form, but apparently it's only a bat in the light of the dawn; I have no idea what his "true form" is supposed to be. While I don't know what the rules of vampirism are in this world, I would assume that they can't very different from typical fantasy, i.e. vampires can't go out in daylight, they feed upon blood, supernatural strength, ageless, and, here, they turn into bats. The rules for turning into a vampire in typical fantasy will apply here also.

Playability: Villains only. I'd actually prefer you to be a Mazoku to this since I don't know what canon is, but we'll see. I may even let your player character become one with a slightly shifted alignment.
