Here are several top five lists, along with honorable mentions. Soon I'll have links to some of the best sites about the miscelanious topics.

Top 5 favorite bands:

  1. Tool These guys are unbelievable. I have had the privelidge of seeing them in concert and they are outstanding live as well as recorded.
  2. Metallica Metallica single handedly brought thrash to a mainstream audience. Although they aren't quite as heavy as they once were, they still rock. ...And Justice for All is one of the best metal records ever made.
  3. Black Sabbath The first heavy metal band. Led Zeppelin may have created the first heavy metal songs, but they never recorded a record that can compare to Paranoid.
  4. Stabbing Westward One of the first industrial bands, they have found a nice medium between techno and metal.
  5. Nine Inch Nails With their new album The Fragile along with thier older albums I had to put Trent Reznor on my top 5.

Top 5 favorite Albums:

  1. Undertoe, Tool This entire CD rocks. Every song on it is outstanding, and every track could make it on my honorable mention list of favorite songs. Because each song is so good, there isn't really one that stands out above the rest with the possible exception of "Prison Sex"
  2. ...And Justice for All, Metallica Metallica's best album. The sound of the guitars is perfect, and with the inclsuion of the song "One" this CD takes a very close second.
  3. Psalm 69, MinistryThe best ministry album ever released. It is so good that I have a hard time believing that these are the same guys on Filth Pig and Dark Side of the Spoon.
  4. Nevermind, Nirvana This album brought on the onslought of grunge back in the early nineties. The songs "Lithium", "Come as You Are", and of course "Smells Like Teen Spirit" are responsible for the sound that hard rock would take in the next 5 years and are responsible for many of the new bands we hear today.
  5. Master of Puppets, Metallica Another Metallica album on my top 5, this has the heavy metal staples "Master of Puppets", "Battery", and my favorite song of all time, "Sanitarium"

Top 5 Favorite Songs:

  1. Fade to Black, Metallica I love songs that go from a real soft intro and build into a heavy climax, and this song does that. From the nice, mellow opening to the last crushing riff, this song is a masterpiece. The lyrics aren't especially brillant, its just stuff about being depressed and suicidal, but the music conveys those ideas perfectly. Besides, I listen to music for the music, not the words, so the mediocre lyrics don't bother me in the least. All in all, it is a great song
  2. Cemetery Gates, Pantera I finally had to put this song up here. The more I listen to it the more I like it.Pantera is perhaps the last good metal band, but this song is very out of character for them (you can actually understand what Phil ,the singer, is saying). It is another example of a song that shifts pace from mellow to heavy, which is also a rarity for Pantera. For those of ou who have never heard this song, it is similar to Nothing Else Matters, but it has much more contrast between the soft parts and the main groove. Even if you don't like Pantera, find an MP3 of this song somewhere and chck it out, it will probably change your opinion.
  3. The House of the Rising Sun ,The Animals Almost everyone has heard this on the radio, and if you've never heard it, you need to check it out. It is neither hard rock or heavy metal, which I normally listen to, but is a softer classic from the early 60's. This song has so much feeling in it that it would have been nearly impossible for me to leave this off my top 5. The guitar strums out the exact same chord progression for the entire song which creates a sense of balalnce to the sad, bluesy vocals. This is definately a timeless masterpiece that should remain popular for many generations.
  4. Prison Sex, Tool I wasn't sure which Tool song to include on my top five, because every song on the Undertoe album is good enough to be included on my favorite list. But with the disturbing theme of this song and the line: "I have found a kind of temperary sanity in this," refering to finding peace in child molestation immediatly catches my attention. Tool are a great musical band with each member having perfect control over thier instruments and lyrics that are both introspective and thought provoking.
  5. Little Wing, Stevie Ray Vaughn Stevie Ray Vaughn is the best guitarist of all time, and this song demonstrates why. Although originally written and performed by Jimi Hendrix, this song is musch better. Just like a good singer can express emotion with their voice, Stevie can show feeling with his guitar. This song is purely instrumental, which is a good choice. No singer could possibly hope to compare to the tone and feeling within this song.
