With over 400,000 inhabitants Cleveland is the 33rd largest city in the country, but as part of the Cleveland-Akron metropolitan area it is included in the 16th largest metropolitan area in the country. Cleveland was built on the steel industry due to it's location on the major shipping lanes through the great lakes. The city was founded by Grover Cleveland in 1796 and celebrated it's bicentennial a few years ago in 1996. Since then Cleveland has grown into a major urban center complete with professional sports teams, first class museums, and a world renowned orchestra.

Sports Teams:

Cleveland has always been known as a sports town, and it's no wonder why. With the Browns, Cavaliers, and Indians all calling the city home Cleveland is one of a relatively few cities that can claim to have professional teams in all three of the major national sports. Cleveland's sports teams have left an indelible mark on the city in the form of Cleveland Browns Stadium, Jacobs Field, and Gund arena. In addition to professional sports Cleveland area high school teams are amongst the tops in the country in football and basketball. In fact Cavaliers star LeBron James is a native of Cleveland.

In addition to sports the city has a wide range of museums and other cultural attractions. The Cleveland Museum of art boasts a large collection of art from all over the world including a substantial collection of artwork from ancient Egypt and an impressive display of medieval arms and armor in the armor court. Not far away in the Cleveland Natural History Museum you can find dinosaur bones, moon rocks, precious gems and minerals, and even a large collection of pre-Columbian ceramics that represent 37 different cultures from all over North and South America. The museum also boasts a planetarium and supports a program for the preservation of natural areas in northeastern ohio. Also on the waterfront of Lake Erie you will find the Great Lakes Science Center an interactive science museum which includes a massive IMAX theatre.

If museums bore you and you're looking for a more dynamic form of entertainment then Cleveland supplies several musical and theatrical alternatives. From the world renowned Cleveland Orchestra to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland has something for every musical taste. If theatre is more your style then the Cleveland Playhouse runs shows October through May and has been doing so for around 90 years.
